Payment is due at the time of service. I accept major credit and debit cards, and HSA and FSA cards.
Why my fee is what it is. I'm an associate-level clinician practicing under board-approved supervision, and my rate reflects that. It will increase when I'm fully licensed. Couples who begin with me before then keep their current rate for the duration of our work together.
I hold two reduced-fee slots in my practice. If cost is what's standing in the way, you're welcome to mention it when we talk. If those slots are full, or private pay simply isn't workable for you, I'll gladly give you the names of excellent in-network clinicians in Conway. I'd rather you get help somewhere than not get it at all.
Why I stay out of network
I'm a private-pay practice, and it's a deliberate choice rather than an oversight. Here's the honest reasoning rather than a slogan.
First, the thing most people don't know: insurance generally doesn't cover couples therapy for relationship problems in the first place. To bill a plan, there has to be an identified patient with a diagnosable mental health condition, and the treatment has to be medically necessary for that condition. “We're struggling in our marriage” isn't a billable diagnosis. So the choice usually isn't between paying out of pocket and being covered. It's between paying out of pocket and having one of you diagnosed with a disorder to make the paperwork work.
I'm not willing to label one of you as the problem. A diagnosis entered to fund couples work goes permanently into that person's medical record, and it quietly changes the story you tell about yourselves. Most of the couples I see don't have a disorder. They have a pattern. I'd rather treat the pattern.
No one outside this room decides when you're finished. Plans authorize care in blocks and can end it based on a reviewer's judgment of medical necessity. Couples work has its own arc, and recovery from infidelity in particular routinely runs longer than a plan will authorize.
Your record stays here. When an insurer pays, it can request documentation to justify continued treatment. Private pay means what you say in session stays between us, subject only to the standard legal exceptions I'll walk you through before we begin.
A small caseload is part of the product. In-network reimbursement rates push clinicians toward very large weekly caseloads. Staying private lets me keep mine small enough that I'm actually thinking about your case between appointments.
HSA and FSA
Therapy is an eligible expense under both. Paying with an HSA or FSA card effectively makes sessions pre-tax, which for most people is a larger savings than they expect, and it uses money you have already set aside.
Cancellations
I ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less notice are charged $99, since the time is reserved for you and can rarely be filled on short notice. Life happens, though. If something genuinely unavoidable comes up, tell me and we'll sort it out.
Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected cost of your care. I provide one to every client in writing before we begin, and you can request one at any time.
